Security Policing goes hi-tech in Cyberabad Our Bureau
Hyderabad , March 27 THE Cyberabad Metropolitan Area, home to the hi-tech city and leading information technology companies, now has the distinction of having the first ever police station in the country to secure ISO 9001: 2000 certification for Quality Management System. The new metropolitan area, carved out of Hyderabad, is becoming an international hub of economic activity and handling the law and order situation is becoming more and more complex. Keeping this in view, the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate (CPC) has embarked upon a three-year strategic plan, being implemented from this year, to build a modern police organisation through technology and support strategy. As a prelude to this effort, the Jeedimetla Police Station under the jurisdiction of CPC is the first to get the ISO certification. "We have plans to go for ISO certification for all the other 50 police stations and work units under CPC in the next six months," the Cyberabad Commissioner of Police, Mr M. Mahendar Reddy, said. Modernisation of the police set-up is being supported by corporates, institutions, non-government organisations and IT giants. Similarly, the local industries, particularly Vasanth Chemicals Ltd (VCL), had contributed to the transformation of Jeedimetla Police Station into an ISO certified outfit. The police station now boasts of adopting 96 standard operating procedures pertaining to a wide range of subjects including documentation and effective management of available resources. The VCL Managing Director, Mr G.K.B. Chowdary, said the transformation had led to decline in crime in the industrial area and closer interaction between people and the police. "Earlier, offences against women were rampant and the women employees of our factory used to be afraid of going home after attending night shifts. The situation has completely changed now, thanks to the police responsiveness," he said.
