Infrastructure Kerala to submit memorandum for airport at Kannur Our Bureau
Thiruvananthapuram , March 29 THE State Government will submit a memorandum to the Union Civil Aviation Minister, Mr Praful Patel, when he visits the State next month, seeking the establishment of an airport at Kannur. This was decided at a meeting held on Monday under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister, Mr Oommen Chandy. The meeting also decided to take further steps to speed-up the development of the Kannur airport. According to an official press release, the Chief Minister told the delegates at the meeting that the airport venture could be implemented either as a build-operate-transfer project or by creating a separate company on the lines of the Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery. Commenting on the demand that acquisition of land for the airport be completed soon, Mr Chandy said the State Cabinet would discuss the issue at its next meeting. Acquisition of 207 acres of land of the 1,200 acres required for the airport has already been completed.
