THE state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. has announced the launch of voice-based value-added service through an automated speech recognition enabled multi-modal platform provided by OnMobile Asia Pacific, an Infosys incubated technology services provider for wireless applications.

This multi-modal service allows users to reach the desired service without going through main menu navigation. This is expected to help the user to straightaway reach his desired application. This service offering would cover ring-tones, dial-a-song, cricket scores, jokes and news.

Addressing a prèss conference here on Tuesday, Mr Sanjaya Kumar, Chief General Manager of BSNL, AP Telecom Circle, said that this service is being rolled out first in AP and would soon be offered in nine more circles.

The Chief Technology Officer of OnMobile, Mr Mauli Raman, said that voice-based applications were being increasingly used by mobile service providers as they help cut across the technology barrier
