Outlook HP Labs plans field tests of research products Our Bureau
Bangalore , March 29 HP Labs India is planning field tests of its research projects over the next 10-12 months, including an input device that permits the entry of Indian scripts in a natural and intuitive manner, said Mr Richard H. Lampman, Senior Vice-President, Research, HP. Field trials are also being planned for a research project with a niche broadcaster that will have an impact on how broadcasting would evolve, said Mr Ajay Gupta, Director, HP Labs India. "We could potentially be targeting the education and government business with the input device for instance," Mr Lampman said, adding that HP Labs wanted to develop solutions and test them locally but that these would cater to a worldwide market. "In the case of the input device for instance, we are not keyboard people and would probably work with partners through a licensing model to take the device to market," he said. HP Labs has 700 people worldwide and the company is planning significant ramp-ups, Mr Lampman said, but declined to give country-wise numbers.
