CCEA clears scheme for development of rubber plantation

THE Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on Tuesday approved implementing the Rubber Plantation Development Scheme during the Tenth Plan period with an outlay of Rs 159 crore.

The scheme includes assisting replanting by providing a planting grant of Rs 20,000 per hectare to growers in the traditional and non-traditional regions having an area up to five hectares and Rs 16,000 per hectare for growers having an area between five hectares and 20 hectares.

Planting grant for new planting would continue at its earlier level of Rs 12,000 per hectare in traditional regions and Rs 16,000 per hectare in non-traditional areas.

The scheme also include setting up a revolving fund of Rs 10 crore for purchase of critical inputs in bulk by the Rubber Board and distributing to small growers through rubber producers societies.

Buffer stocking: The CCEA also gave its nod for the minimum level of buffer stocking norms for the remaining period of the Tenth Plan. The minimum level of stock for rice as on April 1, July 1, October 1 and December 1 has been fixed at 122 lakh tonnes (LT), 98 LT, 52 LT and 118 LT, respectively. The corresponding amounts for wheat have been fixed at 40 LT, 171 LT, 110 LT and 82 LT, respectively.

Jute policy: The CCEA also okayed the Comprehensive National Jute Policy 2005. According to the policy, the Government shall ensure remunerative prices to the jute growers in the country. It also proposes to produce good quality fibre and products at acceptable prices to meet the growing needs of the country and international buyers as well as contribute to the provision of sustainable employment and simultaneously compete at increasing international market share.

The CCEA also approved the second phase of modernisation of Indian Medicine Pharmaceuticals Corporation Ltd in Uttaranchal by enhancing the authorised and paid-up share capital of the company to Rs 70 crore.
