SRILANKAN Airlines is adding 14 new flights to its 10 destinations in India, taking the number of flights from the country to 85 a week.

Addressing a press conference in Kochi, Mr M. Fazeel, Regional Manager for the Pacific, Far East and South Asia, said that the services from five cities are being increased - Kochi from six to eleven, Thiruvananthapuram from nine to twelve, Kozhikode from six to nine, Hyderabad from five to seven and Tiruchi from seven to 10. There are also daily flights from New Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai and 15 flights from Chennai.

It is also offering a holiday package for the tourists from Kerala for the coming summer season. For a price of Rs 7,700, the airlines will be offering return fare tickets, transfers and three nights and four days on the Kochi-Colombo sector. Similar package will also be offered on the Thiruvananthapuram sector as well, Mr Fazeel said.

The offer is targeted at the late evening flights, which the airline will be operating from Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram. The airline is introducing four evening flights a week from Kochi.

SriLankan is also emerging as a major competitor to the Gulf sector. With a specific target on the NRI segment, the airline has also increased its flights to key destinations in the Gulf, including Dubai, Kuwait, Dammam and Abu Dhabi. "SriLankan Airlines has positioned itself as the link between India and the Gulf countries by swiftly increasing flights to both regions, as well as to South East Asia and Europe," Mr Rohan Seniviratne, Manager for South India, said.
