THE Tamil Nadu Government plans to ask the Railways Ministry to extend the Mass Rapid Transport System (MRTS) to Mahabalipuram.

According to the policy note of the Transport Department tabled in the Assembly on Tuesday, the State Government wants the Railways to extend the MRTS from Taramani to Mahabalipuram.

The Government is willing to transfer land along the Buckingham Canal free of cost to the Railways for this project.

The Transport Department is the nodal agency for coordinating with the Railways, Postal, Telecom and Civil Aviation Departments of the Union Government.
