Letters Non-proliferation a myth
It all started when the US offered to supply F-16s and F-18s to India, after it had expressed its apprehensions over the supply of F-16s to Pakistan and was able to force out first "discordant" and "later" consensually appreciative" views from the government. This happened despite the common knowledge that such type of armaments would never be used in either country's own territory even if terrorism manifested itself in the worst possible attacks. Now it seems as if the chain of defence deals is triggered off with the government trying to effectuate fast purchase of arms from countries such as Qatar, France and Britain. Perhaps, it is time we completely shed the myth of "non-proliferation" and display a more responsible attitude by taking into consideration the concerns of nuclear balance in the subcontinent.
