In troubled waters

Fishermen harvesting clams in the backwaters of Kochi. Clam production in the State is dwindling at an alarming rate due to massive water pollution and harvesting of clams by dredgers. Major buyers of clams used to be the cement factories but with the latter resorting to buying cheap limestone bricks, the demand for clams has fallen.
