Coimbatore tops in annual credit Plan outlay

COIMBATORE district has yet again topped in annual credit Plan (ACP) outlay. The outlay for 2005-06 at Rs 4,237.78 crore is 20.07 per cent higher than the current year's outlay of Rs 3,529.24 crore.

A sectoral analysis of the Plan outlay reveals that agriculture and allied sector advances has received the maximum thrust in the coming fiscal. A 30 per cent increase in the allocation has been envisaged for this sector and the outlay has for the first time crossed the Rs 1,000 crore mark to touch a high of Rs 1,047.91 crore.

The outlay has always been the highest for the SSI sector because of the concentration of small industrial units in this belt. From a level of Rs 1,948 crore in 2002-03, the SSI outlay has swelled to Rs 2,584.48 crore in 2005-06, a 16.92 per cent jump over the 2004-05 outlay of Rs 2,210.34 crore.

The District Collector Mr S. Kosalaraman, who unveiled the ACP observed that it had, over the past 12 years grown nearly 18 times. The targets have always been surpassed.
