AS value added tax (VAT) comes into force on Friday, putting the 50-year-old AP General Sales Tax behind, the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has assured the traders and industrialists that the new tax system would not cause them any inconvenience.

"We will see to it that the impact of VAT is smooth for all dealers, traders, industrialists and all other stakeholders," he said.

In a message on the eve of the introduction of new tax system, the Chief Minister said the Government proposes to review the impact of implementation of the VAT Act and Rules after a period of three months. "We will consider making changes after getting feedback," he added.

He said that he had directed the Commercial Taxes Department to interact with the stakeholders to understand their problems, if any.

He, however, pointed out that any changes to the VAT system should conform to the nationally agreed upon framework.
