Rubber dealers keep off market for third day

Our Correspondent

Kottayam , April 1

RUBBER dealers continued to abstain from trading consecutively for the third day on Friday.

According to sources, sheet rubber is expected to open with a gap above Rs 58.50 on Saturday against Tuesday's closing at Rs 56.75 a kg while the sellers' quotes were reported to be around Rs 60 a kg. Acute supply crunch might haunt the main marketing centres in the coming days as a result of the prolonged dry spell all over the State.

The NMCE rubber futures showed signs of improvement adding minor gains to all its contracts with moderate volumes. The April contract was quoted at Rs 59.26 (58.80), May contract at Rs 62 (61.70), June contract at Rs 63.24 (63.10) and July contract at Rs 64 (63.64) per kg for RSS 4. RSS 3 was better at Rs 58.13 a kg against Rs 57.44 at Bangkok. At TOCOM, the May futures for RSS 3 was at 147.1 yen from 145 yen on Thursday.
