Our Bureau

Coimbatore , April 1

THE Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Coimbatore, has held the Centre's decision to amend the Factories Act allowing women workers to attend to late night shifts will kick-start the labour law revamp soon which will make the labour statutes more pertinent to the present day scenario.

Hailing the proposal from the Centre to amend the Factories Act 1948, the CII Coimbatore zone Chairperson, Ms Nandini Rangaswamy, said the CII's administrative reforms panel and its retail working group were actually working hard to impress upon the Government for amending the Factories Act.

She said that now the industry awaited the Government to take all efforts for quick passage of the Bill to give effect to the proposed changes in the Act. Ms Rangaswamy said the move would be beneficial for industries such as the IT, retailing in food and beverages, garment exporters and units in the special economic zones.
