Lakshmi Overseas to expand capacity

Mumbai , April 1

LAKSHMI Overseas Industries Ltd, an integrated processor of non-basmati long grain white rice, has announced a Rs 150-crore expansion plan.

The company plans to increase its rice processing capacity by 1,000 tonnes per day to 3,100 tonnes per day at its plant at Khamano near Chandigarh by September. Lakshmi Overseas also plans to set up a Rs 90-crore power plant of 24 MW in two phases spread over 2005-06 and 2006-07 of 12 MW each.

With this expansion, the company would be able to process around one million tonnes of paddy per annum in 2006-07, the company release said.

The power would be partially supplied to the Punjab SEB after meeting captive requirements, said Mr B. S. Uppal, Chairman and Managing Director.
