Ranbaxy gets USFDA nod for capsules to treat urinary infection

RANBAXY Laboratories Ltd has received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) to manufacture and market Nitrofurantoin Monohydrate/Macrocrystals capsules, 100 mg used for the treatment of urinary infection.

The Ranbaxy formulation is bioequivalent and has the same therapeutic effect as Proctor and Gamble Pharmaceuticals Inc's Macrobid.

The total annual market sales for Nitrofurantoin Monohydrate/Macrocrystals capsules last year were $80 million.
