TATA Group company Voltas Ltd is exploring the possibility of setting up a manufacturing plant for air conditioners in Uttaranchal at a likely investment of about Rs 80 crore.

"We are working on the project to set up a manufacturing unit in Uttaranchal. However, we are also exploring Himachal Pradesh as an option. Depending on which State Government offers us the maximum benefits, we will execute our plans accordingly," Mr K.J. Jawa, Vice-President - Operations, Voltas Ltd, told presspersons on the sidelines of the launch of the company's new split AC range.

Mr Jawa said after withdrawal of tax benefits in Dadra (where the company's plant is located), there has been an exodus of almost all the manufacturing plants from the Union Territory. "Because of this factor, we too are exploring opportunities in other States," he said.

Besides Dadra, the company has manufacturing units in Hyderabad and an assembly plant in Himachal Pradesh.

Meanwhile, the company today said that it expected its turnover to increase by 18-20 per cent in 2004-05, over a sales turnover of about Rs 1,200 crore last year.

Voltas today launched a 0.8 tonne split AC at Rs 15,990 along with another two 1.5 tonne split ACs in the price range of Rs 23,000 to Rs 25,000. The company also launched three models of window ACs in the price range of Rs 14,500 to Rs 70,000 and will spend Rs 20 crore on its advertising and promotion. Last year, Voltas had launched a sub-one tonne window AC at Rs 9,990.
