SE Railway surpasses freight target

SOUTH Eastern Railway (SER) has loaded 73 million tonnes of originating freight in 2004-05, thereby surpassing the target of 71 million tonnes fixed by the Railway Board. In 2003-04, SER had loaded 69 million tonnes of freight, according to a SER press release issued here.

The major commodities transported by SER include iron ore to steel plants, finished steel and pig iron, coal to powerhouses, cement, petroleum products and general merchandise. SER's originating freight revenue in 2004-05 has been pegged at Rs 3,000 crore, a growth of 12.6 per cent over the previous year.
