Hyderabad , April 2

BUOYED by the success of its Wadhwani Centre for Entrepreneurial Development, the Indian School of Business (ISB) plans to introduce a centre of excellence shortly.

Addressing the graduation ceremony class of 2005 here on Saturday, the ISB Dean, Prof M. Rammohan Rao, said the new centre of excellence would be in the areas of manufacturing, logistics and supply chain management.

Prof Rao said the centre for entrepreneurial development had organised a global social venture competition and would soon conduct a national case writing competition, which will contribute cases to the European Case Clearing House.

As part of the centre, ISB started the `K-Hub' recently to support entrepreneurs.

The Centre for Analytical Finance of ISB has finalised it board of advisors and will soon upgrade its activities, said Prof Rao.

Stating that ISB is in the process of setting up a behavioural lab, Prof Rao said the school had conducted the Deloitte Women's Initiative to understand the issues that women faced in the corporate world and had presented a study on why many women do not opt for MBA education.

According to Prof Rao, the placement season was very vibrant this year with companies coming in large numbers and making excellent lateral offers for the class of 2005.

"There have been some dramatic career shifts as well. A new trend this year is that of Indian companies looking for our students to take on international roles.

"This is naturally very exciting for us. We have always attracted high-quality recruiters including global names such as Novartis, Goldman Sachs, Microsoft, BCG and McKinsey."

Expressing concern over global corporate scandals such as the Enron and Worldcom issues, the Novartis AG Chairman and CEO, Dr Daniel Vasella, said there is a need for business schools to talk about ethics, integrity and personal values.
