Bank credit rises Rs 22,417 cr

Mumbai , April 2

BANK credit increased by Rs 22,417 crore for the fortnight ended March 18 to touch Rs 10,92,091 crore, according to Reserve Bank of India's Weekly Statistical Supplement.

This is inclusive of food credit, which declined by Rs 320 crore to touch Rs 41,121 crore and non-food credit, which increased by Rs 22,737 crore to touch Rs 10,50,970 crore.

Loans and advances to State Governments increased by Rs 4,578 crore for the week ended March 26. Total accommodation provided by scheduled commercial banks to the industry in the form of bank credit and investments in shares, debentures, bonds and commercial paper increased by Rs 2,48,097 crore to touch Rs 11,42,210 crore for the week ended March 18.
