AVRA Labs' 2nd research unit

AVRA Laboratories, the Hyderabad-based, contract research focussed company, has set up its second research and development (R&D) unit. The company also announced that it acquired 21 acres of land in the upcoming PharmaCity in Visakhapatnam, to establish a manufacturing unit.

Nobel laureate, Prof Barry Sharpless of Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, US, inaugurated the facility, which would undertake gram scale research at the industrial development area in Hyderabad.

The Secretary, Department of Science and Technology (DST), Prof V.S. Ramamurthy, laid the foundation for a Speciality Chemicals facility.

While the R&D facilities in Hyderabad would focus on contract research on the gram scale, the Visakhapatnam unit would upscale and manufacture Active Pharmaceutical Intermediaries , as well, said Dr Chandra Rama Rao, Director, (R&D) at a function.

The Foundation also presented the annual `Foundation Award', which is given to an Indian scientist, to Dr Yusuf Hamied and the Rama Rao-Hamied Award to Nobel laureate Prof K. Barry Sharpless.
