New Delhi , April 3

THE Government has reconstituted the Board of Trade with effect from April 1, 2005 with a view to boosting exports and ensure a continuous dialogue with trade and industry.

The Board of Trade would advise the Government on policy measures connected with the foreign trade policy, an official release said. In a departure from the past where the Board of Trade used to be headed by a Minister himself, the Commerce Minister, Mr Kamal Nath, has designated a representative of trade and industry to chair the Panel.

The 38-member Board would be headed by Mr Kumar Mangalam Birla, while non-official members include Mr Ishaat Hussain of Tata Sons, Mr Baba Kalyani of Bharat Forge, Mr Malvinder Singh of Ranbaxy, and Mr Jagdish Khattar of Maruti Udyog Ltd.
