Amway India to leverage wellness concept

Vinson Kurian

Thiruvananthapuram , April 4

AMWAY India plans to launch more products in the Nutrilite (nutrition and wellness) and cosmetics segments between now and August 2005, which marks the end of the company's fiscal year.

"Globally, Amway is known as a wellness and beauty company. Amway India too is moving in that direction," the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Mr William S. Pinckney, told Business Line.

The company has begun local manufacturing of the Nutrilite Herbals range of products (dietary supplement), which used to be imported. "At Nutrilite, we believe in goodness from the ground up," says Mr Pinckney.

Nutrilite organic farms are spread over an area of 7,700 acres. "Our scientists are hard at work to ensure quality at every step of the way. They have teamed up with many universities and foundations around the world to conduct clinical trials using plant concentrates, botanicals and nutrients. Nutrilite plant concentrates are manufactured using sophisticated proprietary processes, many of which are patented," he said.

Asked if volumes in the vitamins and dietary supplements are enough to ensure sufficient margins, Mr Pinckney said Amway India has been profitable from the first year of operation.
