Cable, satellite broadcasting body opens India chapter

THE Cable and Satellite Broadcasting Association of Asia (CASBAA) on Monday announced that it is launching a CASBAA India Chapter.

This move is in line with a regional strategy, Mr Marcel Fenez, Chairman, CASBAA, said at a news conference.

Mr Deepak Shourie, Managing Director, Discovery Networks, has been appointed as the Chairman of the Indian Chapter of CASBAA. The other steering group members include Mr Peter Mukerjea, CEO, Star India as Vice-Chairman, Mr Kunal Dasgupta, CEO, Sony Entertainment Television, Mr Rajat Jain, Managing Director, Walt Disney Television International - India and Mr R.C. Venkatesh, Managing Director, ESPN Software India.

"Our objective is to drive growth of cable and satellite broadcasting in India. It is time for India to take its place in the international community and showcase its achievements to the world," Mr Fenez said.

CASBAA India Chapter is expected to promote initiatives such as the launch of pay channel sales and marketing training scheme in India. "We need to actively recruit new companies to join CASBAA within India so that we reflect the existing profile of the association in other parts of the region," Mr Sandy Brown, CASBAA Board Director and President of CNBC Asia Pacific said.
