Maruti sales up 13.6 pc in 2004-05

PASSENGER car market leader Maruti Udyog Ltd on Monday announced that its vehicle sales grew 13.6 per cent last fiscal to 5,36,301 units, its highest ever annual sale since the company began operations over 21 years ago. This annual sale figure includes exports of 48,899 units.

The company's sales were driven by its compact car (comprising Wagon R, Alto and Zen) and mid-size models (Baleno and Esteem), which grew at 54 per cent and 109 per cent respectively in the year.

According to a company statement, Maruti consolidated its leadership in the compact car segment in the market with the Alto growing by over 108 per cent in the year. Sales of the Maruti 800, however, declined by 30.6 per cent in the year to 1,16,262 units.

Meanwhile, during March 2005, the company sold 54,613 units, including 3,920 units of exports, up 3.6 per cent over the same month last year. This is the highest ever sale in a month by Maruti.
