Kovalam to be spruced up

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Tourism Minister, Mr K.C. Venugopal, will on Thursday declare open works on a slew of tourism development plans being taken up by Kerala Tourism at the Kovalam beach destination.

An official spokesman said here that this would mark a significant milestone in tourism development that aims to retain the natural endowments of the area even while seeking to offer the best possible amenities to local residents as well as tourists.

A landscaped beach park, estimated to cost Rs 66 lakh, and a facilitation complex would be set up in the vacant land adjoining the Kovalam Samudra Beach Hotel. The footpath to be laid along the centre of the park will lead up to the massive rock formations overlooking the sea. A food counter and an open stage will be set up at this place.

The facilitation centre will comprise an information centre, a communication centre, a reprographic centre, toilets, cloakroom, a counter for antiques and curios and a parking yard, the spokesman said.
