He said that the Empowered Committee has asked feedback on VAT implementation from trade and industry associations among others by April 11, after which the meeting of the State tax commissioners would take place.
Mr Chandra also said that talks are on between the Empowered Committee and the BJP-leadership for implementation of VAT in the States ruled by the BJP. Similarly, talks are underway with the Uttar Pradesh Government and the Tamil Nadu Government to get them on board.
"I cannot disclose to you what we have discussed. But we have allayed their apprehensions over VAT," Mr Chandra said.
Besides the BJP-ruled States of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, the States of Uttaranchal, Tamil Nadu (ruled by the AIADMK) and Uttar Pradesh (ruled by the Samajwadi Party) have not introduced the new tax system from April 1.
