Paddy sacks at the Pandanbazar UP School at Kumarakom in Kottayam district, one of the several schools where the Regional Service Cooperative Bank has stored 1,205 tonnes of paddy it procured last month. Farmers in Kuttanad, the rice bowl of Kerala, are in despair as the State Civil Supplies Corporation has failed to procure paddy despite repeated promises by the State Government. Primary cooperatives that have procured paddy in the hope of selling it are in deep trouble too.
