Meet on business prospects using renewable energy at Kochi

Our Bureau

Kochi , April 10

THE Institute of Small Enterprises and Development (ISED) here is organising an international workshop on renewable energy based business opportunities here on April 19 and 20.

The workshop will have the active participation of the UNDP, the UNIDO, the UNEP, the ESCAP etc. as also from public promotional agencies, NGO's and financial institutions.

Organised with the support of the Union Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources, about 40 delegates from various Asian countries will participate in the workshop.

The fuelling of prices and the awareness created on renewable energy sources by various promotional agencies, the Government and the non-governmental organisations has enhanced the acceptability of such products during the past three decades.

But the market signals are still not favourable to trigger private sector-led initiatives. Entrepreneurs generally did not consider renewable energy based viable business opportunities as much as the consumers still have doubts on its reliability as a perfect substitute for conventional electricity, a press release said.

It is this concern that prompted the ISED to undertake studies on this sub sector in several Asian countries under its innovative programme called Programme on Globalisation and SME's (PROG-SME).

The findings of this research, with special focus on Bangladesh and India will also be deliberated in the workshop.
