Tabcorp seeking partners

Our Bureau

NEW DELHI: Australian leisure, gaming and entertainment group, Tabcorp, is eyeing India. On his maiden visit to India, Mr Mathew Slatter, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Tabcorp, said that his company is looking at opportunities for development of game-related or lottery-related software systems. "India is well-known for its IT services and has a proven track record. Therefore we feel India is a better choice than China." He hoped that an alliance would be in place in the next six months.

Tabcorp is in the business of entertainment complexes, gaming and wagering. However, the existing law in the country does not permit gaming or betting. "As and when the legal environment in the country changes, we will look at these opportunities," Mr Slatter said. Currently online lottery and betting on horse races are only permitted. The Government does not allow any foreign investment in the online lottery business.
