HealthScribe plans centres in Chennai, Coimbatore

L.N. Revathy

Coimbatore , April 10

HEALTHSCRIBE India, the Indian arm of the US-based HealthScribe Inc, is on an expansion binge.

The company, operating in the medical transcription space, is planning to establish two more centres (next only to Bangalore) at Coimbatore and Chennai.

The Chennai centre is expected to become operational in a year's time and the Coimbatore facility by August, its Managing Director, Mr Suresh Nair, told Business Line.

The company has identified 35,000 sq ft space at the STPI Park in Kumaraguru College of Technology here to set up its centre.

Depending on the numbers that it can hire, the company would expand the facility by another 15,000 sq ft, he said.

The company estimates investment on the two centres at $5 million. The parent company has, in the last decade, created assets worth $20 million in India.

HealthScribeis planning to hire 1,000 to work in the Coimbatore centre.

Answering a query, Mr Nair said HealthScribe's model of growth was in hiring freshers.

"No, we do not go to campus. We only advertise and call the applicants for a test. Those who make it will have to undergo nine months training, before taking the assignment as a Medical Transcriptionist (MT). The entire management team has grown with the organisation," he added.

The company's training partner - National Institute of Teleworking (NEXT) - in Bangalore would be relocated to Coimbatore to impart training, Mr Nair said.

He said the company was targeting a volume growth of 70 per cent during the current fiscal.

Stating that less than five per cent of business volume was presently being outsourced from India, Mr Nair said there was a huge potential in this space, adding: "To do 20 per cent of the volumes we need 2 lakh MTs."

The company expended 10 per cent of its revenue in training. It does not endorse the contract model, but believes that employee retention rests only on HR management and motivation.

The Bangalore facility employs 1,600.
