THE Federation of All India Textile Manufacturers' Associations and the Office of the Textile Commissioner are jointly organising a one-day seminar on technical textiles.
The seminar will be held in Mumbai on April 25. It will host such speakers as the Textile Commissioner Mr Subodh Kumar; Dr B.V.S. Viswanadham, Professor, Indian Institute of Technology; Mr Michael Jaenecke, Director, Techtextil/Avantex Worldwide: Messe Frankfurt GmbH.
Four segments of technical textiles have been identified for discussion at the seminar Buildtech, Geotech, Mobiltech and Medtech.
Buildtech covers application of technical textiles in lightweight and solid structures, earthworks, hydraulic engineering and road construction; Geotech focuses on products in road construction, civil engineering and dam construction; Mobiltech covers developments in ship and aircraft construction, railway and space travel; and, Medtech involves applications of technical textiles in the medical field and hygiene products such as special bandages.
Though a nascent industry in India, it has enormous applications and prospects especially in the West.
The world trade in technical textiles is over $50 billion per annum and it is growing at an accelerated face. India has almost no presence in this segment.
German experts are also likely to visit India in October to help local participants identify their areas of expertise.
