Engineering Taiwan seeks partners in machinery ventures Our Bureau
Hyderabad , April 12 TAIWAN is scouting for partners to forge joint ventures with south Indian companies in the area of machinery. As part of this initiative, the Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry (TAMI) is holding a three-day machinery catalogue exhibition, beginning Tuesday and the association has about 2,500 members. "Businessmen in places such as Mumbai and Delhi do know about Taiwan. But this is not the case with the South India," according to Mr John Chen, Director of TAMI. Mr Chen said machinery exports from Taiwan to India stood at $178 million during 2004, showing a growth of 51 per cent. "We are hoping to cross the $200-million mark this year," he said. "South India's contribution to our exports is very small," Mr Chen pointed out. "We are holding the expo to improve awareness on our country in Hyderabad," he added. The catalogue exhibition attracted 620 manufacturers. They showcased their wide-ranging products, including machine tools, food processing, packaging and plastic machinery. Participating in the seminar on `Doing business with Taiwan', held here to mark the inaugural of the catalogue expo, Mr O.P. Goenka, President of Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FAPCCI), said there was a lot of scope for improving economic interaction between India and Taiwan. He asked TAMI to plan a business delegation to India to explore business opportunities. He also suggested that Taiwan organised joint trade awareness and promotion programmes.
