Entrepreneurship A forum to hone skills of entrepreneurship Our Bureau
Hyderabad , April 12 IF building entrepreneurial qualities in students is the in thing, very little attention seems to be paid about the supply pool of teachers who can make this happen. In February 2003, the Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad, brought together entrepreneurship teachers from IIMs, IITs and other top management and technology institutions to find a solution to this challenge. The result was the formation of the Society of Entrepreneurship Educators (SEE). With 200 educational institutions as members, the SEE is supported by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Prof K. Ramachandran, who took the initiative to form the SEE, said. Organisations such as the IMF and the European Case Clearing House have also shown keen interest and involvement in the activities of SEE, which is celebrating its second anniversary from April 14 to 16 at the ISB. A major feature of the event would be the training programme on case method. Nearly 100 participants representing small and big management and technical institutions from all over the country will be attending, Prof Ramachandran told Business Line. The final of `Case Chase', a case writing competition for teachers to evolve a large pool of teaching materials would also be held. It is the first such competition for teachers and the only one where teachers are allowed to join hands with students in writing cases. About 110 teams submitted preliminary notes on cases, from which 80 were selected. All the cases are based on field data personally collected by the teachers. This includes several upcoming firms such as V-Guard, Monginis, Subhiksha Retail Chain and social ventures such as Banyan and Navnirmati. The finalists will personally present their cases in front of five judging panels on April 15 at the ISB. All good quality cases will be registered with European Case Clearing House, UK. Prof Ramachandran, also the General Secretary, SEE, said it plans to take its activities up to the primary school level and also across the border to other developing countries.
