A win-win situation

During her recent visit to India, the US Secretary of State, Ms Condoleezza Rice, hinted at the possibilities of US cooperation with India in nuclear power generation. The 103 nuclear power plants now in operation in the US generate significantly more electricity than they did in the past as a result of improved management. Capacity utilisation has reached 90 per cent on the average, compared to 60 per cent of yester years.

`Unplanned' shutdowns, which were commonplace those days, are now rare. It will be a win-win situation for India and the US to join hands in this area, as Ms Rice has suggested.
