Mangalore , April 14

ASSOCIATED Cement Companies (ACC) Ltd is planning to increase the production capacity at its plants by around two million tonnes (mt) this year.

Addressing presspersons after launching the `ACC Help Centre' — the second in the country — the Executive Director, Mr Ashok K. Jain, said that ACC is planning to add capacity in line with the growth rate in the cement industry.

ACC, along with its group companies, has 14 plants. He said the capacity would be increased in only a few plants. The group companies have a total installed capacity of 18 mt. During 2004-05, it sold around 16.5 mt of cement.

To a query on the growth target for this year, he said, "We should see more than 8 per cent growth."

Asked whether the cement prices will be hiked, he said that it should be in line with inflation. The prices remained stable for the past few years because companies absorbed various production-related costs. Terming it as an energy-intensive business, Mr Jain said, "We will not be affected, if the energy prices remain stable."
