TN foodgrains merchants plea on farm products Act

Our Correspondent

MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants Association has urged the Chief Minister to bring about necessary changes in the Tamil Nadu Agricultural Products Sales Act so as not to collect cess for the products on which cess is already paid in other States.

In a statement, the association Secretary, Mr V. Dhanasekaran, has said that 16 States in the country have accepted the proposal of the Central Government to bring about changes in the Act to enable unhindered movement of agricultural products between the States.

Tamil Nadu also should bring about necessary changes that would benefit all the sections such as agriculturists, traders and the consumers.

The move by the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, and the Union Agriculture Minister, Mr Sharad Pawar, to do away with all the hindrances in the creation of a single zone for agricultural products is a welcome initiative, he added.
