Airlines Marketing - Strategy Jet plans more international flights Virendra Verma
Singapore , April 15 AFTER starting its first international flight to Singapore, Jet Airways plans to offer international flights to Kuala Lumpur, London and New York in the next few months. The airline also intends to offer flights to Singapore from Chennai and Delhi. However, this will take some time due to some bilateral negotiation between the two countries are under way. Speaking to visiting media journalist from India, the Jet Airways Chief Operating Officer, Mr Peter Luethi, said from May 5, the airline will offer daily flights to Kuala Lumpur from Chennai. This will be followed by daily Mumbai-London flights by end of May and by end of June-July, flights to New York and New Jersey from Mumbai, six days a week. In the next 10 days, the airline will decide on the stopover of New York and New Jersey flight either to Brussels, Paris or Amsterdam. Mr Luethi said he was optimistic on the Jet foray into international airline sector, but the major portion of the revenues will still come from the domestic sector. On the number of passengers to be flown to Singapore, Mr Luethi said the estimate is to fly 75,000-80,000 in the first year of operation. In the current fiscal, Jet plans to fly 1,04,000 flights in the domestic market an increase of nine per cent from the last fiscal. In terms of number passengers to be carried by the airline, Mr Luethi said there will be an increase of 15 per cent with number of passengers flown increasing from 80.55 lakh passengers to more than 90 lakh passengers in the current fiscal. Asked on the impact on the company's topline due to increase of passengers, he said it is very difficult to say as it depends on the fare at that time. The load factor for the company's aircrafts will also increase marginally in the current fiscal from 70 per cent in the last fiscal to 72 per cent. On the future expansion of aircrafts, Mr Luethi said it could be between 9-15 aircrafts in the next 18 months. Meanwhile, on reaching the first flight of Jet, Mr Wong Woon Liong, Director-General of Civil Aviation of Singapore, said the entry of Jet Airways will no doubt contribute even more to the growth of Singapore-India market. Jet Airways new air services will enhance the existing air link between Singapore and Mumbai. It will also make air travel between Singapore and India even faster and convenient, he added.
