Ombudsman cautions banks

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Banking Ombudsman for Kerala and Lakshadweep, Mr V. Krishnamurthy, has cautioned banks that refuse to acknowledge receipt of cheques/drafts tendered for collection at the counters and instead ask the customers to make use of the drop box facility in the branch premises.

In a statement, the Ombudsman has clarified that according to RBI guidelines, the customers are free either to tender the cheques at the counters against acknowledgment or to make use of the drop box facility.

He also said that no branch may refuse to give acknowledgement of the cheques at the regular collection counters. He has appealed to the customers to bring deficiencies in service in this regard to the attention of the Ombudsman at the RBI Building in Thiruvananthapuram.
