TDP, Cong clash on Vamsadhara project bid

Our Bureau

Hyderabad , April 17

HEATED arguments between the Telugu Desam and Congress parties marked the open house held here on Sunday on the tenders for Vamsadhara project, coming up at Hiramandalam in Srikakulam district.

The open house was second in the series of such meetings being held every Sunday to discuss irrigation projects being taken up by the Congress Government. The Government decided to hold meetings, providing political parties with a forum to put forth their objections.

While Mr Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, represented the Congress Party, Mr Sana Maruthi represented the Opposition Telugu Desam Party.

The Rs 933.90-crore project was being taken up in three packages. The project would have cost just Rs 75 crore had it been taken up in 1978 when it was originally planned.

Mr Venkat Reddy warned that the farmers would not tolerate if the project was delayed further.

He appealed to political parties to help the Government in completing the project.

Next week, the open house would be held on the Janjhavati project.
