Hyderabad , April 17

ONE lakh youth in Andhra Pradesh will get a financial assistance of Rs 600 crore to help them stand on their own.

The assistance includes a total subsidy of Rs 100 crore and contribution of Rs 60 crore from the beneficiaries.

Announcing the annual action plan for the Department of Youth Services for 2005-06 here on Friday, Mr T. Harish Rao, Minister for Youth Services, Printing and Stationery, said the remaining Rs 440 crore would be the loan component.

He said the Rs 600-crore assistance programme was being taken up under the Rajiv Yuvasakthi scheme launched in November last year.

All the youth welfare officers had been asked to identify, sanction and help the youth ground the units. Giving a roadmap, the annual plan suggested that selection of beneficiaries and sanction of the earmarked funds should be completed by May 31, 2005. While keeping the June 30 deadline for grounding at least 15 per cent of the units, the plan fixed March 15, 2006, as the deadline for the 100 per cent completion of the units.

The department would construct five youth hostels including in Karimnagar, Medak and Vizianagaram districts with an outlay of Rs 10 crore.

The Minister said 1,000 gymnasiums would be sanctioned.

Besides, 50,000 youth would be given training in various skills, 5,000 youth would get pre-army recruitment training.
