Losing flavour

A grower pollinating vanilla crop at Kodungalloor near Kochi. Vanilla farmers are holding to stocks as they find the prices offered to them unattractive. Vanilla bean prices are ruling lower at Rs 1,500-1,950 a kg on lack of demand in the global market. Exports of cured vanilla during the previous fiscal declined by about 25 per cent as a result.
