Steel cos urged to focus on R&D to cut down costs

Visakhapatnam , April 19

THE bullish phase in the steel industry is likely to last for quite some time and in order to cash in on it the steel producers should cut down costs, according to Mr Y. Siva Sagara Rao, Chairman and Managing Director of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd.

Mr Rao was speaking at the inaugural session of the Rolling Mills Operating Committee meeting in the Ukkunagaram Club of the Visakhapatnam Steel plant on Tuesday. "The steel industry is going strong and the future is bright in view of the massive infrastructure development. However, the producers would have to focus on R&D to cut down on costs," he said.

Mr K.K Rao, Director (Operations); Mr K. Ayyappa Naidu, Director (Personnel); Mr H.S. Chhatwal, Director (Commercial); and Mr M.K. Das, Chief Vigilance Officer, spoke about the importance of disseminating information about the latest technologies.
