Charminar wins INTACH award

THE 400-year-old Charminar is among the six heritage monuments and sites that have won the prestigious INTACH (Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage) Awards 2005.

The other winners are Darbar Hall (Chow Mohalla Palace), Nizam's Museum (Purani Haveli), Toli Mosque, Taj Mahal Hotel (Abids) and Clock Tower (Secunderabad).

The winners were picked from a list of 214 nominations. The screening committee short-listed 24 of them.

Prince Mufakkam Jah received the award from the Andhra Pradesh Governor, Mr Sushil Kumar Shinde, here on Monday for the Nizam's Museum.

Mr K. Veerabhadra Rao, Superintending Archaeologist of the Archaeological Survey of India, received the award for Charminar, while Ms J. Kedareswari, Director of Department of Archaeology, received the award for the Toli Mosque.
