Strategy Industry & Economy - Radio/TV SS Music to waft into US on direct-to-home Nina Varghese
Chennai , April 19 SS Music, the Chennai-based music channel, will soon be available in the US on a direct-to-home platform, Mr B. D. Ramesh Babu, President, SS Music, said. SS Music is entering the US market in association with TV Asia, which is North America's coast-to-coast entertainment and information channel for viewers from the Indian sub-continent. The SS Music programming will cater to the South Indian diaspora. The channel also had plans to go on air on April 14 in Dubai but due to a technical snag, this was not possible, Mr Ramesh Babu said. This has been sorted out and the channel will soon be aired there, he said. SS Music went into its fifth year on air on Tamil New Year's day and its ad revenue is up 50 per cent at Rs 6 crore (from Rs 4 crore in the previous year), Mr Babu said. During the last six months in the South, SS Music's share of all channels has averaged 0.5 per cent to 0.6 per cent as against the 0.3 per cent to 0.4 per cent in the previous half-year. The channel's target audience is between 15 and 34 years in the socio-economic categories A, B and C.
