Mumbai , April 20

Unichem Laboratories Ltd has commenced production at its second formulations unit at Baddi, Himachal Pradesh.

This non-antibiotic unit was set up with an investment of Rs 35 crore and it took almost 12 months to complete the project, a company note said. The new plant will have a capacity to manufacture 950 million tablets and 250 million capsules per annum on single shift basis. The company's other three formulations plants are located at Baddi, Gaziabad and Goa, respectively. Its bulk drug units are located at Roha and Indore.

Since the second formulation went on stream in April, positive results can be seen from next month, the company said.

This facility will also be eligible for the Central excise and income-tax benefit available to industrial units set up at Baddi. This non-antibiotic unit has been set up adjacent to the already existing antibiotic facility of Unichem at Baddi set up in 1998, the note said.
