Infrastructure Karnataka to release Rs 10 crore for Mangalore airport expansion Our Bureau
Mangalore , April 20 THE State Government will give Rs 10 crore for the airport expansion work in Mangalore, according to the Chief Minister, Mr Dharam Singh. Replying to the queries of elected representatives at the district progress review meeting here, he said that the Government will release Rs 10 crore for rehabilitating 116 families on 28 acres of land. The Government has already taken steps to improve airport infrastructure in Mysore and Gulbarga. The Director of the Airports Authority of India, Mangalore, Mr M.R. Vasudeva, has informed the meeting that the second runway is being constructed at the airport. With this, the airport can accommodate bigger aircraft. Additional two aprons have already been set up at the airport. The proposed second terminal building will bring down the distance of airport to the city by eight km, he added. Mr Singh informed the meeting that the State Government will take up pending railway projects with the Railway Minister, Mr Lalu Yadav, in Delhi soon. He was replaying to a question on the completion of Mangalore-Hassan railway line. A railway official informed the meeting that the work on the gauge conversion between Sakleshpur and Subrahmanya on Mangalore-Hassan stretch will be completed by June. The problem of sea erosion during monsoon also came in for discussion at the meeting. The Ports Director, Capt R. Mohan, informed the meeting that seven works to the tune of Rs 10 crore have been proposed in this regard. Apart from this, a Rs 136-crore proposal has been submitted to the Centre on implementing the stabiplage - a French technology - to prevent sea erosion along the coast. Mr Padmanabha Kottary, MLA, urged the Chief Minister not to include private land in the proposed information technology park at Pajir-Kairangala in Mangalore. Mr Kottary was informed that the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board has issued a primary notification for acquiring 457 acres of land at Pajir-Kairangala. Private buildings, including houses, are not included in the notification.
