Paddy MSP hiked by Rs 10/quintal

THE Government on Wednesday announced a hike of Rs 10 a quintal in the minimum support price (MSP) of the 2005-06 paddy crop to be procured during the forthcoming kharif marketing season, beginning October. The MSP for common grade paddy has been raised to Rs 570 per quintal from Rs 560 fixed for the 2004-05 crop, while the same for Grade `A' paddy has been correspondingly enhanced from Rs 590 to Rs 600 per quintal.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, which met here, also decided to increase the MSPs of bajra, jowar and ragi by Rs 10 a quintal each (from Rs 515 to Rs 525), even as that for maize was raised by Rs 15 (from Rs 525 to Rs 540).

Among oilseeds, the MSP for yellow soyabean has been fixed at Rs 1,010 per quintal (up from Rs 1,000 for the 2004-05 season), while it has been frozen at Rs 900 per quintal for black soyabean. On the other hand, the MSPs have been raised to Rs 1,520 (Rs 1,500) for groundnut-in-shell, Rs 1,550 (Rs 1,500) for sesamum, Rs 1,500 (Rs 1,340) for sunflower seed and Rs 1,200 (Rs 1,180) for nigerseed.

In the case of pulses, it has been hiked from Rs 1,390 to Rs 1,400 for arhar (tur) and from Rs 1,410 to Rs 1,520 per quintal each for moong and urad.

For cotton (kapas), the MSP has been left unchanged at Rs 1,760 per quintal for F-414/H-777/J-34 varieties, while being raised from Rs 1,960 to Rs 1,980 for the H-4 variety.
