Bio-tech & Genetics German team to attend Bio meet in Bangalore Our Bureau
Bangalore , April 21 A SEVEN member German delegation will be participating in the three-day Bangalore Bio 2005, underlining its interest in seeking cooperation from Indian industry and forging partnership in research and development in biotechnology. "We are interested in understanding the research and industry potential of Indian biotechnology, particularly regenerative medicine. We would also like to make contact with research institutes and firms involved in isolation, preparation and therapeutic applications of cells, tissues and organs. The entire Indian biological field is of interest to us, for example, Recombinant Cytokine. Of major interest to us are clinics, which are involved in liver and kidney transplantation,'' said Prof. Dr Frank Emerich, Director of the Fraunhofer Institute of Clinical Immunology and Transfusions Medicine, Germany. Biobase from Wolfenbuttel and Institut fur Pharmazie, Pharmazeutische Biologie from Mainz, Germany, are respectively seeking for partners in bioinformatics and agri & pharma biotechnology. Deutsche Messe AG from Hannover is interested in meeting companies wanting to access the German market. "We are looking for companies that are offering contract research services in biotechnology, drug discovery, bioinformatics, chemoinformatics, preclinical and clinical developments as well as Indian firms that are looking for collaborative, risk sharing and/or licensing agreements with European firms,'' said Dr Harald Mottl, Associate, Life Sciences 3A Strategy, Germany. Germany with 340 biotech companies, accounts for $1,409 million turnover. It has 17 biotech clusters that coordinate the regional development of the industry including seed financing and technology parks. Ninety per cent of biotech applications are pharmaceuticals.
