New Delhi , April 21

EFFORTS are needed to accelerate development activities to reach a sustainable solution to the multi-dimensional problems in Jammu and Kashmir.

This was stated by the Chairman of the Prime Minister's Task Force for Long-term Social and Economic Development of Jammu and Kashmir, Dr C. Rangarajan, according to an official release.

Speaking at the first meeting of the task force, Dr Rangarajan, said the group would work towards creating a favourable environment for public and private partnership to promote economic activity.

The force is expected to submit its interim recommendations to the Prime Minister in six months.

The task force has decided to prepare status papers on the transfer of the Salal hydro electric project from National Hydel Power Project Corporation to the J&K Government; tapping hydel potential; providing linkages to the artisan sector; horticulture development; improving connectivity and expanding health coverage. The proposals may include a strategy to improve infrastructure, and tourism.
