Rs 40 lakh stolen from SBI's Dondaparthy branch

Visakhapatnam , April 21

CASH and gold worth over Rs. 40 lakh were stolen from State Bank of India's Dondaparthy branch here on Wednesday night.

The value of gold and jewellery was estimated at Rs 17.52 lakh and the rest was in cash (Rs 22.96 lakh).

According to the police, two of the three shelves in the cash room, located on the ground floor, were opened by the burglars and cash and gold taken away. The three contained Rs 52 lakh worth of cash and jewellery.

Sniffer dogs pressed into service and led up to the platforms at the railway station, police said.

According to the Additional Deputy Commissioner (crime), Mr A.V. Subba Rao, two sets of keys were required to open the shelves.
